New Signatures Update Makes Construction Checklists Easier Than Ever

Our new checklist signatures update gives BIM 360 users more simplicity, more time savings, and greater control over construction checklists than ever before.

What Is The New Checklist Signatures Feature?

BIM 360 now includes a signature feature built in to checklists, making it more functional for users. The update gives users the ability to:

  • Define if a signature is required in the checklist template

  • Define the requirements of multiple signatures

  • Define the name and company of the signatory at the time of signing

How Does The New Checklist Signatures Feature Work?

When generating a checklist template, the creator can define if signatures are required or not. If a signature is required, a signature section is automatically added to the checklist template. The checklist creator can then define how many signatures are required, as well as the role or company of each required signatory.

As users complete each checklist, the relevant signatories are able to review and sign off electronically without printing any extra paper. Each signatory signs the checklist directly inside of BIM 360, keeping the entire process more secured and historical data saved within the product.

Checklists are a great tool which can help support multiple workflows such as safety audits, quality checks, and commissioning inspections.

What’s New in This Update?

Checklist signatures are not new to BIM 360, but this update makes them much more functional. The new features include:

  • As part of the templating process, you can specify multiple signatures or just one.

  • You can specify who needs to sign by role.

  • You can write in the name and company of the person signing the checklist. This makes it easier to track not only whether the checklist has been signed, but by whom and which company they represent.

  • Checklists must now be completed before signing. Edits to the checklist erase any existing signatures. This means that a signature always indicates that every item has been completed prior to sign-off.

Here’s How the Update Simplifies Construction Checklists

Our customers need streamlined tools for safety and quality audits and inspections.  This update saves time, and provides more control over the entire process. Here are some of its benefits to our customers.

  • More clarity and control. Because signatures can only be completed after the checklist is complete, there is no longer any question whether a signature was provided before or after edits.

  • Saves time. Everything can be completed in a single application, without downloads or printing.

  • Better collaboration. Role-based signature definitions and the ability to add in the name and company of individual signatories mean even 3rd party inspectors can be involved.

  • Common data platform. Capturing signatures directly inside of BIM 360 keeps your safety and quality approval process inside a single source of truth for all project data.

  • Saves paper. No printing, organizing, and storing paper files.

What’s Next for Checklist Signatures?

This latest update provides all the most commonly requested features for saving time and improving quality and safety inspections. But that doesn’t mean we’re done making it even better!

Right now, we’re looking at the potential to add e-signature integration. Currently, signatures are provided by drawing the signature manually on a mobile device screen. Some future possibilities include integrations with an existing electronic signature application, adding signature requirements for individual sections to support the workflow within a checklist, and using face recognition to validate identity.

We’d love to hear from you what you’d like to see in our next update!
